How do I set up direct deposit?

To see if you can automatically set up direct deposit of your government or unemployment benefits to your Walmart MoneyCard account, follow the easy steps below: (Please note you can only set up direct deposit for Social Security benefits over the phone as online set up is currently not available. Contact the Social Security Administration at (800) 772-1213 for instructions on how to set up your direct deposit through their phone service.)

Automatic setup

Log in to the Walmart MoneyCard app or Walmart MoneyCard.com. Then access your "Direct deposit" page from the "Move money" menu.

To get started, tap or click the "Set up automatically" button at the bottom of the "Direct deposit" page.

Review the steps for how to automatically set up your direct deposit & hit “Continue.”

From there, you can search for "Who pays you?" to find your government or unemployment benefits provider & automatically set up your direct deposit in just a few steps:

Provide your government or unemployment benefits provider login credentials.

Select how much of your pay you want direct deposited to your Walmart MoneyCard account.

Confirm your direct deposit allocation & submit the request for processing.

Walmart MoneyCard uses Atomic to securely connect to your benefits provider to update your direct deposit information.

If your setup is successful, you should start seeing your direct deposit in your Walmart MoneyCard account in 1-2 pay cycles. If your request was not successful or you are unable to find your benefits provider, please see "Manual setup" steps below.

Manual setup

Ask your government or unemployment benefits provider for instructions on how to set up direct deposit.

Then follow these steps to get your bank account number & routing number:

Log in to the Walmart MoneyCard app or Walmart MoneyCard.com. Then access your "Direct deposit" page from the "Move money" menu.

From the "Direct deposit" page, copy your Walmart MoneyCard direct deposit account number & routing number to give to your benefits provider. If your provider requests the account type, enter “Checking.”

Follow the instructions provided by your benefits provider to give your bank account & routing numbers & make your direct deposit selection.

Once setup is complete, direct deposits usually start showing up in your Walmart MoneyCard account within 1-2 pay cycles.

TIP: Ask your benefits provider how long it will take them to set up your direct deposit. If it takes longer than expected to receive your first direct deposit, check back with your benefits provider.

IMPORTANT: The name & Social Security number on file with your benefits provider must match your Walmart MoneyCard account to prevent fraud restrictions on the account.
